FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need an appointment for an ultrasound service?

Yes, appointments are necessary for all of our services.

How long does an ultrasound session take?

All of our services usually last between 15 and 30 minutes.

What is 4D Ultrasound?

4D means four-dimensional. In this case, the fourth dimension is time. Thus, instead of grainy and jerky pictures you are used to seeing on a 2D ultrasound, the 4D allows you to watch in amazing real-time detail as your baby yawns, stretches and snuggles down for a nap. Also, since pictures are taken from more angles than for the traditional 2D ultrasound, you also get a clearer look at the baby's features. It actually looks like a baby rather than something out of a sci-fi novel

What is an elective prenatal ultrasound?

Sound Choices offers elective 3D/4D prenatal ultrsound services to provide a positive bonding experience for the mother and family members of the unborn baby. We feel that these realistic images provide a connection between parents and baby that can be beneficial to the entire family.

A routine ultrasound should have already been performed to assess the gestational age of the baby to identify any fetal anomalies and to evaluate basic components of fetal anatomy. (This requirement is to avoid problems during your 4D exam).

Is it safe? Are there any risks to me or my baby?

Extensive studies over 30 years have found that ultrasound has not been shown to cause any harm to mother or baby and routine scanning of all pregnancies is now normal throughout the United States. In 3D/4D scanning, the same type and intensity of ultrasound is used as with conventional 2D scanning

2D, 3D, and 4D ultrasound all utilize sound waves to peek inside the body. A probe placed on the body emits sound waves into the body, listens for the return echo, and generates the image based on the returned data.

How far along should I be before I have a 3D/4D ultrasound

If you plan on having only one 3D/4D ultrasound, we would recommend booking your apopointment between the 28th and 32nd week of the pregnancy.

However, 4D images of your baby can be obtained anytime after the 24th week of pregnancy. Many mothers obtain more than one 3D/4D ultrsound and have images to enjoy from both their second and 3rd trimesters

Will I always get a beautiful picture of my baby?

Usually, but not always. If the baby is persistently looking face down(toward your spine), it may be difficult to see baby's face. If this happens, trying again within a few days will sometimes be successful because the baby has had time ot hopefully turn to a more favorable position.

We cannot make any promises that the images will be similar to those you might have seen elsewhere, or that we can meet everyone's expectation

We promise to make every effort to obtain the best possible images of whatever parts of the baby that can be seen

What can I do to improve the quality of my Ultrasound?

DRINK PLENTY OF WATER! If you do not normally drink water daily, you should consider doing so beginning atleast 5-10 days before your schedule appointment. However, your bladder does not need to be full at the time of your appointment. Hydration can significanly improve the clarity of an ultrasound.

Does Insurance cover the 4D pregnancy ultrasound procedure?

At this point, insurance does not cover this as it's a limited diagnostic procedure and is not intended to be a replacement for your physician ordered ultrasound.
